A therapy model (Schwartz, 1990s) that views the mind as containing multiple "parts" — protective, wounded, managerial — and the work is helping the calm core Self lead them rather than be hijacked by them.
In IFS your therapist might say, "There's a part of you that wants to call them back, and a part that knows that's bad. Let's hear from both — and then let your Self decide." The framing reduces shame: it's not all of you that wants the unhealthy thing.
