A markedly and persistently unstable sense of self — values, goals, career, even tastes can reorganize around whoever is currently close. A core DSM-5 BPD criterion.

What it looks like

They became a runner with the runner, vegan with the vegan, then someone else with the next person — not performance exactly, but a self that struggles to hold its shape without a mirror to reflect it.
