Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) — what it means

A Cluster B disorder defined by a stable, lifelong pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behavior), need for admiration, and lack of empathy. The cost lands hardest on the people closest.

What it looks like

Your father has always needed to be the smartest in the room, can't tolerate criticism, can't tune in to what you feel unless it threatens his image — and has been this way as long as anyone remembers. That cluster of traits is what NPD describes.
