Bittul — what it means

Self-nullification before something higher — a spiritual ideal in Chassidus. Distorted in a relationship, it is used to demand a partner erase their own needs, opinions, and self entirely.

What it looks like

"A wife needs bittul" — used to mean she shouldn't have a will of her own.
