DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) — what it means

An evidence-based therapy developed by Marsha Linehan, originally for BPD. Teaches concrete skills in mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

What it looks like

In a DBT group, your partner learns the TIPP skill: when emotion is about to override thought, change body temperature (cold water), do intense exercise, do paced breathing, do paired muscle relaxation. Concrete tools, practiced weekly, the gold-standard treatment for BPD.
